Custom made

Liljeström Guitars is producing a modest number of guitars per year. I´m able to make guitars for handful of customers, but I´m confident that best results can be achieved that way.

When commissioning a guitar there are many options to choose from. And some of them at no cost. You can decide the nut width, neck profile as well as other features. Short or long scale, left handed models, different fretsizes are all available at no extra charge.

Here you will find some models that i have designed to suit variety of players, but also all custom orders are most welcome.

*As of January 2007 the base price for my acoustic guitars is 2000 euros. The price reflects the chosen materials and components. The prices for mandolins start at 1200 euros, and electric guitars at 1600 euros.

Stable necks

To eliminate problems all necks have been dried for a long perioid of time. Wood must reach a stable point before the building begins. Each neck wood is picked for weight and density, appearance and good resonance. I use 1-way trussrod that has little mass and effect on tone, but is very effective to keep the neck straight and troublefree. Headstock is also reinforced with two bars running under the fretboard and headplate.

Wood choises

The top is what gives most of the sound on guitar. I have built guitars using three spruce species: sitka, italian alpine spruce and german spruce. Red cedar and redwood are also great. Wood selection is done to achieve a certain tone on guitar, and also by the appearance of the woods. Back and sides materials include different mahoganies, bolivian rosewood, indian rosewood, curly maple and curly birch and many others.

Assembly and set-up

Liljestrom guitar is assembled and built in 42–45% humidity. This is crucial to every guitar. A guitar built this way can withstand the changes of climate much better than other guitars. Set-up is done with great care. Nut and saddle are made of bone, polished and compensated. The frets are rounded and polished. After the guitar has had its strings on for a while, the guitar is intonated and ready to go.

Warranty

All new Liljestrom guitars are covered by a limited warranty to the original purchaser against defective materials or workmanship. Damage incurred by misuse, accidents, normal wear, or natural cracking of wood or lacquer finishes due to extreme changes in humidity and temperature is not covered in this warranty.
